Classes

Ceramics
Ceramics classes are held on Thursdays from 1:00-3:00pm. Classes run in 8-week sessions. Cost is $15.00 per session plus cost of materials. No tools or bottles of paint to buy. Everyone is invited, as no prior experience is required. This is a good way to spend time with friends and explore your creativity.

Healthy Bones for Life
Osteoporosis is a condition that causes bones to lose their strength and to break easily. The Healthy Bones for Life class offered at the Center provides low impact exercises that focus on prevention and slowing the effects of the condition. Classes meet every Monday and Wednesday from 9:45-11:15am. Weights are provided and exercises are tailored to each individual’s ability. Nutritional information is also discussed. Dr. approval for this class is needed. There is no charge for this class.

Functional Strength and Conditioning Training
Funtional Strength and Conditioning Training is designed to help you move better and become healthier; providing functional strength, balance and range of motion of all joints. This class is tailored specifically to the needs of each individual participant. So, if your goal is weight loss, injury recondition, increase upper and lower body functionality, building full body strengh and enhancing your cardiovascular fitness, this class is for you! Classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:45-10:45am at the Center. Our instructor is Teresa Burke BS, NASM, FMS from Healthplex Fitness. Classes are just $4.00 per class for members only.

Line Dancing
Line Dancing class is held every Thursday from 2:00 - 3:30 pm. This class is for everyone who likes to dance and have fun all at one time. This class is geared for the senior dancer. No experience needed. All levels welcome. Each class is $5.00 for members and $6.00 for non-members.

PACE
PACE (People with Arthritis Can Exercise). This class focuses on the individual and is tailored to each participant’s level of ability. Whether you suffer from arthritis or just need a slower paced exercise program, this class is beneficial to all. Classes meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30 - 11:30am. There is no charge for this class.

Woodcarving
Bill McCormack, Master Woodcarver for over 30 years, is the instructor for this group who meets every Tuesday from 9:00-11:00am to share conversation and have a good time carving large or small pieces of wood into whatever the carver would like. Bill provides the wood, ideas and tips. No experience necessary. Everyone has a great time and sometimes amazed at how creative they are.

 

Card Stamping

Our Card Stamping class offers participants a great opportunity to create your own beautiful greeting cards that will impress your family and friends. Classes are held one Friday each month at 10:30am and 12:30pm. Participants need to bring their own double stick tape and scissors with all other supplies provided. The cost is just $3.00 per class. 

Jewelry

Our creative Jewelry Making Class lead by our not so formal instructors, Janet Carroll and Doreen Draiss, is held on one Tuesday of every month at 12:30pm. Each month a differnt project is selected. No experience needed. All suppies and tools are provided. The cost is $7.00. 

Alzheimer's Support Group

Our Alzheimer’s Support Group sponsored by the Alzheimer's Association meets the third Thursday of every month at 12:00pm. Our group enjoys a complimentary lunch together while discussing various issues faced by caregivers and those they care for. If you or someone you know are interested in attending, please call the Center to sign-up. This group is open to the community.

Learn to Quilt

If you’re a beginner or have never quilted before, this is a great opportunity for you to learn how. Have a sewing machine but don’t know how to use it? Just bring that with you and we will show you how. Our “Learn to Quilt” classes are offered at various times throughout the year. You may also come to the Friday morning quilting class to get started.

Quilting

Every Friday morning the Quilting group meets at 9:30am to work on various quilting projects. This is an instructional class only. Participants are responsible for all supplies and sewing machine.

Turning Memories into Memoirs

The Clifton Park/Halfmoon Library, in partnership with the Center, sponsors a workshop, Turning Memories into Memoirs, in the spring and fall, at the Center. This five-session workshop provides advice and encouragement as well as actual writing practice. Each class consists of writing exercises, discussion of “the practice of writing”, book suggestions, handouts and suggested assignments. Local writer and poet, Mary Sanders Shartle, is our instructor. There is no workshop fee for this workshop but you must live in the Clifton Park/Halfmoon Library area.
