James grew up in Buffalo, OK and attended Cowley Community College in Arkansas City, KS from 1997 – 2000.  After graduating with two associate’s degrees; one in Criminal Justice and the other in Business Management, James decided to join the armed forces.  James attended boot camp in Fort Leonard Wood, MO.  From there, James was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany from 2000 – 2005 as a Military Police Officer.  He was assigned to 554 MP Company.  James intended to serve for a few years to gain experience to help him become a police officer, when September 2001 changed his military career.   During his tour, he served in Iraqi Freedom War from 2003 – 2004 attached to 173rd Airborne Brigade stationed on Kurkirk Air Base.  While in Iraq, James received his Sargent Stripes. 

James returned to the United States in 2005 and joined the Army National Guard out of Pittsfield, MA where he re-class to Combat Engineer (2005 – 2010).  James is an active member of the American Legion and was an American Legion Rider out of Dalton, MA Post 155 from 2008 – 2015.  James met his wife, Stephany, in Canaan, NY in 2012.  They got married in 2015 at the Century House in Latham.  They soon found their forever home in Halfmoon.  In 2016, they welcomed their daughter, Raelynn.  James currently is working at the Albany Stratton VA Hospital in the Prosthetics Department assisting other veterans and completing his requirements to graduate college with a BA in General Science.
