Kenneth W. Sheerin received his basic training as a recruit at Camp Polk, Louisiana.  Upon completion he was given the rank of Private and was shipped to Hokkaido, Japan for advanced infantry training.  He served with the 45th infantry division in the 279th regimental combat team.  He was promoted to private first class serving as a squad leader in a 4.2” heavy mortar company.  After training he was promoted to Corporal.

His division was then shipped to Korea to be part of the 8th army and part of the United Nations forces.  His unit replaced the 1st Cavalry Division on the combat line.  In combat Ken served as a squad leader and a forward observer for the 4.2” heavy mortar company and was promoted to Sergeant.  After combat he returned home and was released from active duty. 

He received the following awards and commendations: Army of Occupation Medal (Japan); Korean Service Medal with 1 bronze star; United Nations Service Medal; Combat Infantrymans Badge with 2 battle stars.  On the 50th Anniversary of the Korean Conflict he received a recognition medal from Kim Dae– Jung, President of the Republic of Korea.

Upon returning to civilian life he settled on Long Island with his wife where they raised three children.  He was employed by the Airborne Instruments Laboratory Division of Eaton Corp.  After many years he retired from the company as Deputy Directory of the Material Planning Department.  Prior to that position he served as Assistant Purchasing Manager where he was responsible for creating a total integrated MRP computer system that connected funcitons from material management, planning, purchasing and manufacturing.  After leaving the AIL division of Eaton Corp he was employed as a Manager of the New York Branch of Systems Programming Ltd. Of San Francisco, a software developer.  He then retired to enjoy playing golf and tennis.
