Welcome to the Town of Halfmoon

On behalf of the Town of Halfmoon and the Halfmoon Town Board, I would like to welcome you to our website. Halfmoon was founded in 1788 and is a scenic community with a current population of over 20,000 residents. Halfmoon offers the “best of everything”. We are a growing community with excellent educational institutions, friendly neighborhoods, numerous historical sites, Senior Programs and recreational trails and parks that have many activities for individuals of all ages.

I hope you find our web site informative, user friendly and convenient. It is constantly being updated and improved and is intended to be your source to obtain useful information about Town Programs, Town Meetings agendas and minutes, Committee Meetings, Town Forms and more. You will also find a Halfmoon Business Directory which we hope encourages you to patronize our Halfmoon Businesses. The Community Bulletin Board will help you find services and community organizations that serve our community.

There are some very exciting events and projects happening in Halfmoon that I am excited to tell you about. Recently, the Halfmoon Senior Center went through some renovations to mark their 25th year at this location. Fresh paint and carpet has been installed in the interior and new siding, landscaping and parking lot have been completed on the exterior. 2017 also marks the 30th anniversary of the Halfmoon Senior Association. Halfmoon is proud of our Seniors and will be what we can to show our appreciation for they have done for our community. We are also in the stages of designing a dog park. A contest was held for residents to help name the park. Soon the construction will begin with a Grand Opening in the Fall. Lastly and maybe most important is a Veterans Memorial in the Town Park. This memorial will honor all our Veterans – past, present and future. There is a Buy a Brick program for anyone who would like to honor a Veteran as part of the Walk of Honor. Order form for this program is available on the link above - click here for Frequently Asked Questions . There will be a ceremony to officially open the memorial on September 23, 2017 at 10:00AM – prior to the beginning of the Fall Festival. As you can see, the Town of Halfmoon is busy putting together these wonderful and meaningful additions to our Town.

As always, if we can be of service to you, please feel free to contact me personally or a member of our Town Team.

With Best Regards, Kevin J. Tollisen, Halfmoon Town Supervisor

Although not in the Town of Halfmoon, the Town of Colonie Landfill has submitted an application to NYS Department of Environmental Conservation to expand the use of the landfill for another 20 years and the size of the Colonie Landfill.  If you have concerns or questions regarding the proposed expansion/extension of the Colonie Landfill, please see the links below with information recently distributed to Town residents in close proximity to the Colonie Lanfill.

The information included a letter advising residents of a Public Hearing for the proposed expansion/extension, along with a Notice of the Public Hearing from the New York State Department of the Environmental Conservation. Also included was a letter from the New York State Department of Army Corps asking the Town of Halfmoon to respond to its request for a Public Hearing and the Town of Halfmoon's response to that request. Letters to the Colonie Landfill advising the Town resident's concerns regarding odor and requesting balloons indicating the proposed height are also available for your reference.

Please feel free to contact the Supervisor's Office with any questions you may have on this matter. Updates will be posted  on the website as they become available.
