Town Councilwoman Daphne Jordan is working hard for an even better Halfmoon. She is dedicated to preserving and protecting Halfmoon's special quality of life and ensuring that our Town remains a great place for families.
For nearly two decades, Daphne has been a proud resident of Halfmoon where she lives with her husband Phil and their two sons, Lane and James.
Daphne has a proven record of serving our community. She has volunteered her time, talents, experience and expertise as a member of the Halfmoon Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals and as Treasurer of the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Library. In this leadership capacity, Daphne successfully managed a $3 million operating budget and a $15 million construction budget for the library that is a treasured community resource connecting children and families with a lifetime of learning and a love of reading.
Daphne served as the Parent-Public Representative to the Partnership Team at Shatekon Elementary School where she helped initiate a popular school-wide summer reading program. Daphne also developed weekly neighborhood reading rooms during the summer for Halfmooon children in need, bringing together teachers, volunteers and books donated by the Friends of the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library
In January of 2014, Daphne was appointed to the Halfmoon Town Council and was elected for a 2015 term.
A successful businesswoman with 24 years of private sector experience, Daphne understands the needs of Halfmoon's local job creators and is their strong advocate in Town government. Serving as Chairman of the Town's Business and Economic Development Committee, Daphne is working to ensure that Halfmoon is business friendly to allow Halfmoon's current businesses to prosper and to attract new businesses to Town. In her first year, with this new Committee,
sign ordinances were amended as were other zoning ordinances to better streamline processes for new business applicants. Daphne and the Committee are actively engaged in identifying corridors of growth for new businesses. Daphne has partnered the Committee's efforts with the Chamber of Southern Saratoga and the Saratoga Economic Development Corporation in an effort to match new businesses with all that Halfmoon has to offer.
Daphne is working to grow our economic base in a smart, sustainable way that preserves Halfmoon’s special charm and best protects Open Spaces and passive recreational areas. As Liaison to the Town's Trails and Open Space Committee, Daphne has actively promoted Trails and Open Spaces in the early planning stages of all new developments and will also explore new methods to better preserve Halfmoon's Open Spaces.
Daphne also serves as Chair of the Town's Insurance Committee and, in just her first two months in office, renewed Halfmoon's liability and employee medical insurance policies to save taxpayers $100,000.
Daphne serves as Legislative Director for New York State Senator Kathy Marchione. In this capacity, Daphne has worked closely with the Senator in developing bi-partisan public policies that reform government, reduce costs for senior citizens and families, help veterans and make New York State a more affordable place to live. Daphne has worked closely with local governments on their home rule legislation and helped develop the Senator's public policy agenda that has created 18 new State laws.
Daphne is a proud graduate of Penn State Dickinson School of Law where she earned her Juris Doctorate Degree, and also Lehigh University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree, graduating with a series of academic honors and recognitions.
Daphne worships at St. George's Church. She enjoys competitive swimming as her boys are swimmers. She serves as a USA, YMCA and Suburban League Level 2 Swim Official. In 2012, she helped found the Southern Saratoga YMCA Barracudas' Parents Organization which supports the YMCA's swim team and fundraises for pool improvements enabling the Barracudas to host many of the Capital District YMCA meets. Daphne also helped raise funds for the Shenendehowa Men's Swim Team and served on the Board of the Knolls Swim Club.
